Teaching English: types of intelligences and activities that you can use
According to Howard Gardner there is not only one type of intelligence, but 8.
A trick to remember them is the acronym KILL MINS.
Kinesthetic
Interpersonal
Logical
Linguistic
Musical
Intrapersonal
Naturalist
Spatial
These are some activities that you can carry out based on the type of intelligence of your students:
K: role-play, mingling, acting, miming.
I: dialogues, interviews, role-play.
L: jumbled sentences, word search, mental map, brainstorming.
L: writing: letters, stories, emails, etc. reading: newspapers, novels, letters, etc.
M: dictation, listening to music, audiobooks, podcasts.
I: talking to yourself, writing a diary.
N: all kinds of outside activities.
S: watching videos with subtitles, using flashcards, comics, drawing.
IMPORTANT:
Obviously there are many other activities that you can carry out, these are just a few.
You can apply these activities in the teaching of any language, not only in English.
You can use any activity for any type of intelligence. For example, you can use music for a kinesthetic student, or role-play for a naturalist.
No activity is exclusive to some type of intelligence, but it is important to consider the learning style and preferences of your students when you are going to choose one or another type of activity.
